Neti cleanses the nose; Jala Neti uses warm saline water, Sutra Neti uses a soft thread — both clear the nasal passages and aid breathing.

Neti is the Shat Karma kriya that cleanses the nasal passages. Its two common forms are:

  • Jala Neti (water Neti): warm, mildly salted water is poured into one nostril from a special pot (neti-pot) and allowed to flow out through the other nostril, washing the nasal passages.
  • Sutra Neti (thread Neti): a soft, waxed thread or thin rubber catheter is gently inserted through one nostril and drawn out through the mouth (or the other nostril) to clean the passage.

Benefits:

  • Clears the nasal passages and sinuses of mucus, dust and impurities.
  • Relieves nasal congestion, colds, sinusitis and allergies.
  • Improves clear, free breathing, which aids pranayama. …
