A half-wave rectifier uses a single diode in series with the load so that only one half of each AC cycle produces output current.

Circuit (described in words, as only text can be rendered here): The AC input is applied across the primary of a step-down transformer. One end of the transformer's secondary winding is connected to the anode (p-side) of a junction diode; the cathode (n-side) of the diode is connected to one end of the load resistor RLR_L. The other end of RLR_L is connected back to the other end of the transformer's secondary winding, completing a single series loop: secondary → diode → RLR_L → back to secondary. The rectified output is taken across RLR_L.
