EVALUATION
This is the textbook's own end-of-chapter evaluation for the Metallurgy unit, testing material across the full span of the chapter through two question formats.
Part I, 'Choose the correct answer', is 24 multiple-choice questions (numbered 1-24, including two questions explicitly tagged as having appeared in NEET -- 2017 and 2018) covering: the composition of bauxite; the gas evolved on roasting a sulphide ore; identifying a calcination reaction; which metal oxide resists carbon reduction; the metal extracted by the Hall-Heroult process; the thermodynamics of roasting a sulphide before reduction; a column-matching question on cyanide process/froth flotation/electrolytic reduction/zone refining; magnetic separation of wolframite from tinstone; feasibility of metal-displacement reactions; which metal is extracted electrochemically; the role of a flux; which ore froth flotation suits best; the role of cryolite in aluminium electrolysis; how zinc is obtained from ZnO; how silver is recovered after cyanide leaching; using the Ellingham diagram to identify a metal that can reduce alumina; the Van Arkel process for zirconium; methods of ore concentration; an incorrect-statement question spanning Mond's process, Van Arkel's process, froth flotation and gold leaching; the anode used in electrolytic refining of copper; and three further questions specifically on reading and interpreting the Ellingham diagram (its axes, the CO line's slope, and feasibility of aluminothermic-type reductions). …
