Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) is a prenatal test conceptually similar to amniocentesis — it screens for chromosomal abnormalities — but samples different tissue: instead of amniotic fluid, it tests a small sample of the placental tissue (the chorionic villi). Because placental tissue is available earlier in pregnancy than a full amniotic-fluid sample, CVS is generally usable earlier than amniocentesis, giving parents and doctors an earlier diagnostic window when needed. …
