The power set of A={1,2}A=\{1,2\} is the set of all its subsets: P(A)={∅,{1},{2},{1,2}}P(A) = \{\emptyset, \{1\}, \{2\}, \{1,2\}\}.

The power set of a set AA, written P(A)P(A), is the set whose elements are ALL the subsets of AA -- including the empty set and AA itself.

Step 1: Count how many subsets to expect.

A={1,2}A=\{1,2\} has n=2n=2 elements, so it has 2n=22=42^n = 2^2 = 4 subsets.

Step 2: List every subset systematically.

  • Choosing neither element: ∅\emptyset
  • Choosing only 11: {1}\{1\}
  • Choosing only 22: {2}\{2\}
  • Choosing both: {1,2}\{1,2\}

That accounts for all 44 subsets predicted in Step 1. …
