Biogas is a methane-rich fuel gas generated by methanogenic bacteria anaerobically digesting organic/cattle-dung waste in a biogas plant.

Biogas is produced when a mixed population of anaerobic bacteria (including methanogens such as Methanobacterium) breaks down complex organic matter - cattle dung and plant/animal waste slurry - in an oxygen-free (anaerobic) environment inside a biogas/gobar-gas plant.
