Around this octamer, a DNA double helix (about 200 base pairs) is drawn coiled in approximately 1.65 left-handed turns, entering and leaving near the same point on the octamer. A fifth histone, H1, should be shown as a small separate structure sitting at the point where the DNA enters/exits the core, acting as a 'linker' histone that helps seal/compact the DNA around the octamer and stabilises the higher-order folding of the nucleosome chain.
