Power factor is cos(phi), the cosine of the phase angle between voltage and current; it is zero for a purely reactive circuit and one for a purely resistive (or resonant) circuit.

i) Purely capacitive circuit: current leads voltage by ϕ=90∘\phi = 90^\circ, so power factor =cos⁡90∘=0= \cos 90^\circ = 0. (No net power is dissipated over a cycle - the capacitor only stores and returns energy.)
