Binary-to-octal with a fraction still means 3-bit groups — but the two sides of the point are grouped in OPPOSITE directions: the integer part from the right (pad left), the fractional part from the left (pad right).

Why this works. Each octal digit is exactly 3 bits, and grouping must start at the binary point on both sides so the place values line up.

Integer part 10101100:

Pad to 9 bits: 010 101 100
Digits : 2 5 4

Fractional part .01011:

Group from the point, pad the right end: 010 110
Digits : 2 6
(10101100.01011)2 = (254.26)8

Verification:

Integer : (10101100)2 = 172 ; (254)8 = 128 + 40 + 4 = 172 ✓
Fraction: (.01011)2 = 1/4 + 1/16 + 1/32 = 0.34375
          (.26)8 = 2/8 + 6/64 = 0.25 + 0.09375 = 0.34375 ✓
