(a) A departmental undertaking offers strong parliamentary control, direct government control with revenue to the treasury, suitability for strategic services, secrecy, and public accountability. (b) Common personal investment avenues are bank deposits, post-office savings schemes, life insurance, shares/mutual funds, and gold/real estate.

(a) Five advantages of a Departmental Undertaking:

• Effective legislative control: As it is a part of a government department, it is fully answerable to the legislature (Parliament/Assembly), ensuring close public scrutiny.
• Direct government control and revenue: The government exercises full control over its working, and all its earnings go directly into the government treasury, adding to public revenue.
• Suitable for strategic and essential services: It is ideal for activities of national importance such as defence production, railways, and public utilities where profit is not the main aim.
• Secrecy in sensitive matters: Matters of national security and importance can be kept confidential since the undertaking is under direct government control.
• Public accountability and less misuse of funds: Its accounts are subject to government budgeting and audit, so there is greater accountability and reduced chance of misuse of funds.
