Reflect the source point (1,2)(1,2) across the xx-axis to get its image (1,−2)(1,-2); the physical reflected ray lies along the straight line joining this image to (5,3)(5,3), and AA is where that line meets the xx-axis.

For a ray reflecting off the xx-axis, angle of incidence = angle of reflection exactly when the incident ray (from the source) and the reflected ray (to the target) both lie on the straight line joining the target point to the image of the source in the xx-axis.

Step 1. Reflect the source point (1,2)(1,2) in the xx-axis.

Reflecting a point in the xx-axis flips the sign of its yy-coordinate: image =(1,−2)=(1,-2).

Step 2. Equation of the line joining the image (1,−2)(1,-2) to the target (5,3)(5,3).
