Effects of Centrifugal Force

Although centrifugal force is fictitious (pseudo), its effects, as experienced by an observer in the rotating frame, are entirely real and consequential.

  • Car taking a turn: a passenger inside the turning car (itself a rotating, non-inertial frame during the turn) feels distinctly pushed outward, toward the outer side of the curve. Seen from outside the car (an inertial, ground-based observer), what is really happening is simpler: the passenger's body, by inertia, tries to continue in a straight line, while the car curves away beneath/around them — the two descriptions (outward push vs straight-line inertia) are equivalent, just from different frames.
