Finding the equilibrium point

40−x=10+2x⇒30=3x⇒x0=1040-x=10+2x \Rightarrow 30=3x \Rightarrow x_0=10. Then p0=40−10=30p_0=40-10=30 (checking against supply: 10+2(10)=3010+2(10)=30 ✓).

Consumer's Surplus

CS=∫010(40−x) dx−x0p0=[40x−x22]010−10(30)CS=\int_0^{10}(40-x)\,dx-x_0p_0=\left[40x-\frac{x^2}{2}\right]_0^{10}-10(30)

=(400−50)−300=350−300=50=(400-50)-300=350-300=50

Producer's Surplus

PS=x0p0−∫010(10+2x) dx=10(30)−[10x+x2]010PS=x_0p_0-\int_0^{10}(10+2x)\,dx=10(30)-\left[10x+x^2\right]_0^{10}

=300−(100+100)=300−200=100=300-(100+100)=300-200=100 …
