Zeatin is a naturally occurring cytokinin, first isolated from the immature kernels (developing endosperm) of maize, Zea mays -- hence the name. Like other cytokinins, it promotes cell division (cytokinesis), delays leaf senescence, helps break bud dormancy, and, together with auxin, regulates key developmental processes including shoot and root organogenesis.
