Mental health is a state of well-being of the mind, closely tied to healthy self-esteem — liking oneself and being able to stand up for what one believes is right. A mentally healthy person tends to show a well-rounded personality, being creative and cooperative, and their contributions are valued by society; positive mental health meaningfully improves overall quality of life.
Depression is a common mental disorder marked by a depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep, poor appetite, low energy and poor concentration.
