Need for Reproductive Health - Problems and Strategies
India is among the first few countries in the world to have launched a national 'Family Planning Programme,' as far back as 1951, and the programme is reassessed roughly every decade to stay relevant. It is now popularly known as 'Reproductive and Child Health Care (RCH),' and the major tasks it carries out include:
- Creating awareness and providing medical assistance to build a healthy society.
- Introducing sex education in schools so that adolescents understand the physical and emotional changes of adolescence.
- Educating couples and people of marriageable age about the birth-control methods and family-planning norms available to them.
- Creating awareness about care for pregnant women, post-natal care of both mother and child, and the importance of breastfeeding.
- Encouraging and supporting government and non-government agencies to identify new methods, or improve existing ones, of birth control. …
