The idea. Cloud platforms are operated both by governments (to host public e-governance services on sovereign, secure infrastructure) and by private companies (as commercial pay-per-use services). The question asks for one concrete example of each kind.
a) Government-provided cloud computing platform
- MeghRaj — the GI Cloud (Government of India Cloud): the national cloud initiative of the Government of India, implemented through the National Informatics Centre (NIC). Its National Cloud data centres provide infrastructure, platform and storage services on which government departments host their applications — e-governance portals, DigiLocker (citizens' digital document wallet), scholarship and service-delivery portals, and e-learning platforms such as DIKSHA. The goal is fast rollout of e-services at lower cost, with data kept within India. ("Megh" means cloud — hence MeghRaj.)
b) Large-scale private cloud service providers and their services
| Provider | Major services |
|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services (AWS) | EC2 (virtual servers/IaaS), S3 (object storage), RDS (managed databases), Lambda (serverless compute) |
| Microsoft Azure | Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Blob Storage, Azure SQL, plus SaaS like Office 365 and OneDrive |
