A community is the assemblage of populations of different species living together in the same habitat and interacting with one another.

For example, all the Hydrilla plants growing in a single pond together make up one population, since they belong to the same species and occupy the same area. A pond, however, does not contain only Hydrilla — it typically also holds populations of other hydrophytes, algae, and various animal species, all living in the same space and interacting with each other (through competition for light and space, through feeding relationships, and so on).
