Celsius scale: The lower fixed point (ice point, melting point of ice) is taken as 0°C, and the upper fixed point (steam point, boiling point of water at standard pressure) is taken as 100°C. The interval between them is divided into 100 equal divisions, each called one degree Celsius.
Fahrenheit scale: The same two fixed points — ice point and steam point — are taken as 32°F and 212°F respectively. The interval between them is divided into 180 equal divisions (212 − 32 = 180), each called one degree Fahrenheit.
