Warm, used air rises by convection and escapes through ventilators near the roof, while fresh cool air enters lower down.

In a room, air is warmed by the occupants, by their breathing, and by lamps. This warm air, being less dense (lighter), rises upward - this movement of heated fluid is called convection.

The rising warm, humid and impure air collects near the roof. Ventilators are therefore provided just below the roof so that this hot, light, used-up air can escape from the top.
