Allosteric inhibition describes a general way an enzyme's activity can be reduced: an inhibitor molecule binds not to the active site itself but to a separate, regulatory site elsewhere on the enzyme (the 'allosteric' site), and this binding changes the overall shape of the enzyme in a way that reduces or abolishes its catalytic activity. This is a broad mechanism that can apply to many different enzymes and many different inhibiting molecules. Feedback inhibition, by contrast, refers to a specific biological situation: in a multi-step metabolic pathway, the final end-product of the pathway itself acts as the inhibitor, binding to and inhibiting an enzyme that acts early in that same pathway, so that once enough end-product has accumulated, further production automatically slows down.
