Genotype is the genetic make-up (which alleles an organism carries); phenotype is what that genetic make-up actually looks like when expressed.

Genotype: The genetic constitution of an organism — i.e., the specific combination of alleles present at a locus (or across all loci) — is called its genotype. It is represented using letter symbols, e.g., a pea plant's genotype for stem height may be written TT (homozygous tall), Tt (heterozygous), or tt (homozygous dwarf). The genotype is fixed at fertilization and does not change with the environment.
