Phenotype is what is expressed and observed; genotype is the underlying genetic makeup responsible for it.

Phenotype:

The phenotype is the observable expression of a character in an individual - i.e., the physical, physiological or biochemical appearance/trait of an organism, such as flower colour, seed shape or height. It results from the interaction of the genotype with the environment.

Genotype:

The genotype is the actual allelic (genetic) constitution of an organism for a particular character, i.e., the combination of alleles present at a gene locus (e.g., TT, Tt, or tt for a height gene), whether or not this is visibly expressed.
