Emulsions are liquid-in-liquid colloids, classified by which liquid forms the dispersed droplets and which forms the continuous medium.

Emulsions: An emulsion is a colloidal system in which the dispersed phase as well as the dispersion medium are both liquids that are normally immiscible with each other (e.g. oil and water). Fine droplets of one liquid are dispersed throughout the other liquid, usually stabilised by an emulsifying agent (emulsifier), such as soap, which reduces the interfacial tension and prevents the droplets from coalescing.

Classification: Emulsions are classified into two types based on the nature of the dispersed phase and the dispersion medium:
