An angiosperm ovule is an integument-covered structure attached by a funicle, enclosing the nucellus and the embryo sac with its seven-celled, eight-nucleate structure.

Structure/parts of an angiosperm ovule (described in place of a hand-drawn labelled diagram):

  • Funicle: the stalk that attaches the ovule to the placenta of the ovary.
  • Hilum: the point/region of junction between the funicle and the body of the ovule.
  • Integument(s): one or two protective outer layers of the ovule, enclosing the nucellus, leaving a small opening at one end.
  • Micropyle: the small pore/opening left at the tip of the integuments, through which the pollen tube usually enters the ovule.
  • Chalaza: the basal part of the ovule, opposite the micropylar end, where the integuments and the nucellus are fused/joined.
