Genotype = genetic make-up (alleles); Phenotype = observable expression of the trait.

Genotype refers to the genetic constitution of an organism, i.e. the actual alleles it carries for a character — for example TT (homozygous dominant), Tt (heterozygous) or tt (homozygous recessive).

Phenotype refers to the observable, physical or physiological expression of that genetic make-up, resulting from the interaction of genotype with the environment — for example a plant being tall or dwarf, or a flower being violet or white.
