The ovule (megasporangium) is the structure inside the ovary that develops into a seed after fertilisation. The parts to be drawn and labelled are described below (since the diagram is student-drawn):

  • Funicle (funiculus): the stalk that attaches the ovule to the placenta of the ovary.
  • Hilum: the point where the funicle is attached to the body of the ovule.
  • Integuments: the one or two protective coverings (outer and inner integument) surrounding the ovule; they later form the seed coat.
  • Micropyle: a small pore at the tip left by the integuments; pollen tube usually enters here.
  • Nucellus: the mass of nutritive tissue enclosed within the integuments; it nourishes the developing embryo sac.
  • Chalaza: the basal region of the ovule, opposite the micropyle, where the integuments and nucellus join the funicle.
