Lorentz force F = q(E + v×B); the two coils give equal central fields, ratio 1 : 1.

Lorentz force: The total electromagnetic force on a charge q moving with velocity v in an electric field E and magnetic field B is

F = qE + q(v × B) = q(E + v × B).

The magnetic part qv×B is perpendicular to the velocity, so it changes direction but not speed.

Ratio of central fields: The field at the centre of a circular coil of N turns and radius R is B = μ₀NI/(2R).

Coil 1: wire length l bent into N₁ = 2 turns. Total wire = 2 × 2πr₁ = l ⇒ r₁ = l/(4π).

B₁ = μ₀ × 2 × I / (2r₁) = μ₀ × 2I / (2 × l/(4π)) = 4πμ₀I/l.
