Q.Medicines are either man made (i.e., synthetic) or obtained from living organisms like plants, bacteria, animals etc. and hence the latter are called natural products. Sometimes natural products are chemically altered by man to reduce toxicity or side effects. Write against each of the following whether they were initially obtained as a natural product or as a synthetic chemical.

Penicillin, Vitamin C and Growth Hormone all trace back to natural, living sources, while Sulfonamide was built artificially in the laboratory as a synthetic chemical.

Medicines reach patients by two different routes. Some are natural products, meaning they were first isolated from a living organism such as a plant, a bacterium, a fungus or an animal, even if they are sometimes chemically modified afterwards to reduce toxicity or side effects. Others are synthetic chemicals from the start, designed and built by chemists without ever being extracted from a living source.

Sorting the four examples along this line:
