A pie diagram is a circle divided into sectors, each sector representing a part of the total, with the angle of each sector proportional to the value of that part. The angle for a component equals its value divided by the total, multiplied by 360 degrees.

Meaning

A pie diagram, also known as a circle diagram or angular diagram, is a method of presenting statistical data in which a circle is divided into several sectors (slices). Each sector represents one component or part of the total quantity, and the size of each sector shows the relative importance of that component.

How it is drawn

Since the total of all the components is represented by the whole circle, which contains 360 degrees, the angle at the centre for each component is calculated by the formula:

Angle for a component = (Value of the component / Total value) multiplied by 360 degrees.

The circle is then divided into sectors using these angles, and the sectors are usually shaded or coloured differently and labelled.
