Arranging and organising factors of production — He brings together the four factors of production — land, labour, capital and enterprise — arranges finance, premises, raw materials and workers, and sets up the organisation.

Innovation — He introduces something new: a new product or service, a new method of production, a new market or a new source of raw material, which gives his business an edge.

Risk-bearing and uncertainty-bearing — He undertakes the risk of loss arising from changes in demand, prices, technology and competition, which cannot be fully insured against.
