Andhra Pradesh, with a coastline of about 974 kilometres on the Bay of Bengal, has several seaports. Visakhapatnam is the major port, and Gangavaram, Krishnapatnam, Kakinada, Machilipatnam and Nizampatnam are important non-major ports that handle cargo and support trade, industry and employment.
