No particle can have both its position and momentum known exactly at the same time; the product of the uncertainties has a fundamental lower bound set by Planck's constant.

According to the dual (wave-particle) nature of matter, a microscopic particle such as an electron cannot be assigned a precisely defined position and momentum simultaneously. Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle states that the product of the uncertainty in position (Δx) and the uncertainty in momentum (Δp) of a particle is always greater than or equal to h/4π:
