Q.Using the seven mental operations listed in Table 7.1 of the chapter, briefly describe how you would plan a class picnic, from identifying the problem to evaluating the outcome.
Following the same seven-step sequence the chapter applies to organising a Teachers' Day play: (1) Identify the problem - a class picnic needs to be planned for a specific date within a limited amount of time. (2) Represent the problem - break it into its parts: choosing a destination, arranging transport, planning food, and setting a budget. (3) Plan the solution by setting sub-goals - survey a few possible destinations, get quotes for transport, and consult classmates and teachers about preferences and constraints. (4) Evaluate all solutions - compare the shortlisted destinations against cost, distance, and how much everyone would enjoy them, perhaps by taking a class vote. (5) Select one solution and execute it - book the chosen destination and transport, collect the budgeted amount, and go on the picnic. (6) Evaluate the outcome - after the picnic, consider whether it went well, stayed within budget, and was enjoyed by the class. (7) Rethink and redefine - note what worked and what didn't, so that the next picnic (or similar class event) can be planned even better.
The same seven-step sequence used for the play example - identify, represent, plan sub-goals, evaluate solutions, select and execute, evaluate the outcome, and rethink - applies directly to planning a class picnic, showing how general this problem-solving template is across very different kinds of problems.
