Share Capital in the Balance Sheet is ₹3,90,000 — 38,000 fully paid shares (₹3,80,000) plus 2,000 partly paid shares (₹10,000 after deducting calls-in-arrears of ₹10,000).

Concept and treatment

Seema paid only the application money (₹5) on her 2,000 shares and did not pay allotment (₹3) or the first and final call (₹2). Those 2,000 shares are therefore subscribed but not fully paid-up; the other 38,000 shares are subscribed and fully paid-up. The shares are not forfeited, so the number of shares is unchanged.

Working Notes

Amount payable per share: Application ₹5 + Allotment ₹3 + First & final call ₹2 (balance) = ₹10.

Calls-in-arrears (Seema, 2,000 shares):

  • Allotment: 2,000×3=6,0002{,}000 \times 3 = 6{,}000
  • First & final call: 2,000×2=4,0002{,}000 \times 2 = 4{,}000
  • Total calls-in-arrears =10,000= 10{,}000

Capital figures:

  • Subscribed and fully paid: 38,000×10=3,80,00038{,}000 \times 10 = 3{,}80{,}000
  • Subscribed but not fully paid (called-up): 2,000×10=20,0002{,}000 \times 10 = 20{,}000; less arrears 10,000=10{,}000 = ₹10,000 paid-up
  • Total paid-up =3,80,000+10,000=3,90,000= 3{,}80{,}000 + 10{,}000 = 3{,}90{,}000
