Varsha's Capital Account is credited with her opening capital, share of General Reserve, interest on capital, share of goodwill and share of profit till death. The amount payable to her executors is ₹6,41,000.

Concept and treatment

When a partner dies, her Capital Account is settled by transferring the final balance to her Executor's Account. The account is credited with: her opening capital, her share of accumulated reserves, interest on capital up to the date of death, her share of goodwill (raised through the continuing partners in their gaining ratio), and her share of profit from the last balance-sheet date to the date of death. It is debited with any drawings (none here).

Profit-sharing ratio Aditi : Renu : Varsha = 3 : 2 : 5, so Varsha's share = 5/10.

Working Notes

WN 1 — Share of General Reserve

General Reserve ₹1,00,000 × 5/10 = ₹50,000.

WN 2 — Interest on Capital

₹3,00,000 × 6% × 4/12 (1 Apr 2023 to 31 Jul 2023 = 4 months) = ₹6,000.

WN 3 — Share of Goodwill

Goodwill of firm = 3 years' purchase × average profit ₹90,000 = ₹2,70,000.

Varsha's share = ₹2,70,000 × 5/10 = ₹1,35,000 (borne by Aditi and Renu in their gaining ratio 3 : 2).

WN 4 — Share of Profit till Date of Death (based on sales)

Profit rate = ₹12,00,000 ÷ ₹60,00,000 = 20% of sales.

Sales 1 Apr 2023 to 31 Jul 2023 = ₹15,00,000 → estimated profit = 20% × ₹15,00,000 = ₹3,00,000.

Varsha's share = ₹3,00,000 × 5/10 = ₹1,50,000.
