After posting interest on capital, interest on drawings and the given share of divisible profit, Jain's Current Account shows a closing credit balance of Rs 1,60,000 and Gupta's a closing credit balance of Rs 1,17,600 as on 31 March 2024.

Concept

With fixed capitals, every item other than capital - interest on capital, interest on drawings, drawings and share of profit - is routed through the partner's Current Account. Credits: interest on capital and share of divisible profit. Debits: drawings and interest on drawings. The divisible profit already credited (Jain Rs 72,000, Gupta Rs 48,000) is given, so we only need interest on capital and interest on drawings to complete the accounts.

Working Notes

1. Interest on Capital @ 10% p.a. (capitals changed on 1 July 2023)

  • Jain: 15,00,000 x 10% x 3/12 + 14,00,000 x 10% x 9/12 = 37,500 + 1,05,000 = 1,42,500
  • Gupta: 12,00,000 x 10% x 3/12 + 14,00,000 x 10% x 9/12 = 30,000 + 1,05,000 = 1,35,000

(Jain's capital falls to Rs 14,00,000 after withdrawing Rs 1,00,000; Gupta's rises to Rs 14,00,000 after introducing Rs 2,00,000.)

2. Interest on Drawings @ 18% p.a. (no dates given -> average period 6 months)

  • Jain: 50,000 x 18% x 6/12 = 4,500
  • Gupta: 60,000 x 18% x 6/12 = 5,400
