A common method is the Attendance Register (or, mechanically, a Time Recording Clock).
Time Booking records how a worker's present time was actually spent — against which specific job, product or process. A common method is the Job Card (Job Ticket), one card per job, on which the start and stop time of work on that job is recorded as it happens.
The two serve different purposes: Time Keeping data feeds wage computation and overhead absorption on a labour-hour basis, while Time Booking data feeds the charging of labour cost to the correct job and the measurement of job-wise efficiency. The gap between time kept and time booked to productive jobs is Idle Time.
