Use inclusion–exclusion to find how many students took at least one juice, then subtract from the total surveyed to find 'neither'.

n(A∪O)=n(A)+n(O)−n(A∩O)n(A\cup O) = n(A) + n(O) - n(A\cap O). Neither =Total−n(A∪O)= \text{Total} - n(A\cup O).

  1. Given: total surveyed =600= 600; apple-juice takers n(A)=150n(A) = 150; orange-juice takers n(O)=225n(O) = 225; both n(A∩O)=100n(A\cap O) = 100.

  2. Find how many took at least one juice: n(A∪O)=n(A)+n(O)−n(A∩O)=150+225−100n(A\cup O) = n(A) + n(O) - n(A\cap O) = 150 + 225 - 100.

    =375−100=275= 375 - 100 = 275. …
