Example 1 — agricultural labour: In much of India, including large parts of Gujarat's agricultural belt, farm labourers are needed intensively during the sowing and harvesting periods but have little or no work in the months between these operations, since the crop requires comparatively little labour once it is growing. This leaves agricultural workers seasonally unemployed for a predictable stretch of the year.
Example 2 — sugar-mill and other processing workers: Workers employed in sugar mills are needed mainly during the cane-crushing season; once the season ends, the mill has little work for them until the next season's crop is ready. Similar seasonal patterns affect workers in ice factories (busier in summer), and in tourism/resort-dependent occupations tied to a particular travel season. …
