Work:
Work done by a constant force F on a body that undergoes a displacement d, with the force and displacement making angle theta between them, is:
W = F d cos(theta)
Work is a scalar quantity. SI unit: joule (J), where 1 J = 1 N m = the work done when a force of 1 newton displaces a body by 1 metre in the direction of the force.
Power:
Power is defined as the time rate of doing work:
P = W / t (average power), or P = dW/dt (instantaneous power)
Equivalently, instantaneous power P = F . v (force dotted with velocity).
