Work: Work is said to be done when a force produces a displacement in the body on which it acts. If a constant force F produces a displacement d, and theta is the angle between the force and displacement directions, the work done is:
W = F d cos(theta)
SI unit: joule (J), where 1 J = 1 N.m (the work done when a force of 1 newton displaces a body by 1 metre in the direction of the force).
Power: Power is the time rate at which work is done (or energy is transferred).
P = W/t (average power), or instantaneous power P = dW/dt = F.v
SI unit: watt (W), where 1 W = 1 J/s.
