Max bananas = 8, max mangoes = 4; budget line slopes downward; bundles on it exactly equal income; getting more of one good means giving up the other.

Given: Income (M) = Rs.40; Price of banana (P_b) = Rs.5; Price of mango (P_m) = Rs.10. The budget line is 5·(bananas) + 10·(mangoes) = 40.

a) Maximum bananas (entire income on bananas): 40 ÷ 5 = 8 bananas.

b) Maximum mangoes (entire income on mangoes): 40 ÷ 10 = 4 mangoes.

c) Slope of the budget line: The budget line is downward sloping (negatively sloped). Its slope equals −P_b/P_m = −5/10 = −1/2, showing that to buy more bananas the consumer must give up mangoes.

d) Do the bundles on the budget line equal the consumer's income? Yes. Every bundle lying exactly on the budget line costs exactly Rs.40 — the whole income is spent, no more and no less.
