Bananas (all income) = 4; Mangoes (all income) = 2; slope is downward; bundles on the line exactly equal income; and yes, more bananas means giving up mangoes.

Given: Price of banana (PBP_B) = Rs. 5, Price of mango (PMP_M) = Rs. 10, Income (M) = Rs. 20. The budget line is 5B+10M=205B + 10M = 20.

  1. Bananas if entire income spent on bananas: B=M/PB=20/5=4B = M / P_B = 20 / 5 = 4 bananas.
  2. Mangoes if entire income spent on mangoes: M=20/PM=20/10=2M = 20 / P_M = 20 / 10 = 2 mangoes.
  3. Slope of budget line: The budget line slopes downward (negative slope). Its slope = −PB/PM=−5/10=−0.5-P_B / P_M = -5/10 = -0.5, meaning to get 2 more bananas she must give up 1 mango.
  4. Are bundles on the budget line equal to income? Yes. Every bundle lying on the budget line costs exactly Rs. 20, so it just exhausts (equals) the consumer's income. …
