Why accuracy matters. Analytical results are used to make real decisions with real consequences: monitoring the composition of raw materials, intermediates and finished industrial products; checking air quality around industrial plants; determining the composition of soils and fertilizers in agriculture; verifying the composition of medicinal preparations in medicine; and supporting evidence in forensic science and engineering. An inaccurate measurement at any of these points would propagate into a wrong quantitative conclusion — for example, a wrong percentage composition would give a wrong empirical/molecular formula, a wrong titration reading would give a wrong purity assessment, and in medicine or forensic work, inaccurate analysis could have direct safety or lega …
