Communication Services

Meaning and Importance

Communication is the business service through which information, messages, orders, and documents pass between a business and its customers, suppliers, employees, and other stakeholders. Without a reliable communication service, a business cannot receive orders, respond to customer queries, coordinate with suppliers, or manage its own internal operations — communication is what carries the information a business runs on, just as transport carries its goods.

Types of Communication Services

1. Postal Services — The traditional government-run service for sending letters, parcels, and money orders across the country; still used for many official and low-urgency documents.

2. Telecom Services — Landline and mobile telephone services that allow instant voice communication over any distance, along with SMS and related messaging facilities.

3. Courier Services — Faster and generally more reliable than ordinary post for documents and parcels, courier services offer door-to-door pickup and delivery, tracking, and typically a guaranteed (or at least much shorter) delivery time, which matters for urgent business documents.

4. Internet-based Communication — Email, video calls, instant messaging, and other internet services now let a business communicate almost instantly with anyone, anywhere, at very low cost, and have become the primary channel for routine business correspondence, meetings, and document sharing. …
