Organisation of Commerce and Management · Ch 4 — Business Services
Overview
Overview
Business Services is the fourth chapter of the Maharashtra State Board (MSBSHSE) HSC Commerce syllabus for Organisation of Commerce and Management, and it is the single most important chapter in the subject from an examination point of view. Organisation of Commerce and Management is examined only at the Std XII (HSC) level — there is no board examination for this subject at Std XI — so everything you learn here is tested in one final paper. Within that paper, Business Services on its own is estimated to carry roughly 20 marks in the no-option pattern (around 27 marks when optional questions are counted), out of the full 80-mark (116-mark with options) Std XII theory paper — by far the largest share carried by any single chapter, so a strong grip on this chapter has an outsized effect on your overall score.
This chapter studies the services that support and enable trade and industry: banking, insurance, transport, warehousing, and communication. These are sometimes called auxiliaries to trade because, without them, goods produced in a factory could never reach a customer safely, affordably, and on time. Maharashtra's HSC class 12 Organisation of Commerce and Management syllabus for this topic draws on the same business-services principles — banking, insurance, transport, warehousing, and communication — that are also taught under CBSE/NCERT Business Studies, so the core concepts you master here are recognised across boards, even though Maharashtra's own Balbharati textbook develops them in its own way.
We begin with what makes a service different from a good, and then study each of the five major business services in turn.
