Fungi exhibit the greatest species diversity among the four groups listed. The NCERT textbook itself notes that fungi alone outnumber the combined species count of fishes, amphibians, reptiles and mammals — a scale far beyond gymnosperms, algae, or bryophytes.

The NCERT chapter does not print an exact species-count table for gymnosperms, algae, bryophytes and fungi, but it gives two strong, chapter-grounded clues to compare them.

First, the text states plainly: "The number of fungi species in the world is more than the combined total of the species of fishes, amphibians, reptiles and mammals."

Second, Figure 13.1 in the chapter depicts the "Plants" panel split into Fungi, Algae, Lichens, Mosses, Ferns and allies, and Angiosperms. In that figure, Fungi and Angiosperms are clearly the two largest wedges, while Algae, Lichens, Mosses, and Ferns and allies are comparatively thin slivers. Gymnosperms are not even a distinct slice in this diagram — consistent with them being the least diverse of the options listed.

Algae are a diverse assemblage occupying nearly every aquatic habitat — a genuinely large group, but nowhere near fungi's scale by the chapter's own comparison.
