Circuit (what to draw): The AC input goes to the primary of a transformer whose secondary is centre-tapped. The centre tap C is taken as one output terminal (connected to one end of the load ). The two ends of the secondary (A and B) are connected to the anodes of two diodes and ; the cathodes of both diodes are joined together and connected to the other end of the load .
Working:
- During the first half-cycle, suppose end A is positive and end B negative. Then is forward biased and conducts, while is reverse biased and does not. Current flows from A through , through , and back to the centre tap.
