Step 2. Gypsum is the raw material for producing plaster of Paris, made by heating it to about 300 °F; plaster of Paris is in turn used as a sculpting material.
Step 3. In medicine, gypsum-derived plaster is used in making surgical and orthopedic casts, such as splints and casting moulds.
Step 4. In agriculture, gypsum acts as a soil additive, conditioner and fertiliser -- it helps loosen compact or clay soil and supplies the calcium and sulphur essential for healthy plant growth, and can also remove excess sodium ions from soils with high salinity.
Step 5. In personal care, gypsum is used in toothpastes, shampoos and hair products, mainly for its binding and thickening properties. …
